Artworks
Our artists create stunning works that reflect the beauty of New Orleans and our lovely state of Louisiana. You will find serene landscapes, delicate florals, and playful creatures among the collection of available paintings. Each artist focuses on a different medium, from oils, to pastels, to watercolor. Each piece is an original, unless otherwise noted. If any of the works shown below catch your eye, we would be more than happy to help you bring a local piece of art into your home.
Glinda Schafer
Glinda works primarily with pastels, though she has worked with oil paints in the past. She loves to educate others in her prefered medium so that they may understand the labor of love put in to her work.
“Pastel”, comes from the Latin word “pasta” (paste) and does not refer to pale colors associated with the cosmetic and fashion industries, nor is it “chalk” as it sometimes mistakenly called.
Pastel is a pure pigment, obtained from the earth. This pigment is ground into a powdered form, mixed with a binder, made into a paste, compressed into sticks and applied directly to the painting surface by the artist. Pastel has no liquid binder that may cause the surface to darken, fade, yellow, crack, blister or oxidize with the passage of time. There is no drying time and no allowances have to be made for changes in color as the medium dries. The wide range of colors available vary from soft and subtle to bold and bright. No other medium has the power of color or stability of pastel. When applied to an archival ground and properly framed, it is the most permanent of all media.
