Local Artists
Maple & Oak is not only a furniture store, we are an art gallery as well! As a local business, we wanted to support the local art community. We are thrilled to introduce you to the artists whose works are on display in our store. If you visit our showroom and see a piece that catches your eye, we would love to assist you in bringing that special painting home.
Glinda Schafer
PSA, DPS, IAPS-MC, NOAA
Glinda Schafer is a New Orleans pastel artist who has won many awards, locally, nationally and internationally. She has had four solo museum exhibitions and participated in numerous invitational and group exhibitions. Although having started her art career in oils, she fell in love with pastels and they have been her primary medium since. Her landscape paintings evoke a sense of peace and tranquility. Water has always been a major source of inspiration, so the marshes and beaches of the coastlines are a constant theme in her work.
Glinda has been an active board member and signature member of the Degas Pastel Society since 1986 and is the current President. She is also a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, the New Orleans Art Association and in the Master Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies.
Lita Ducote, MCA
SDP (CCAA), WBAG
Lita Ducote is a proud native of Gretna, where art has been part of her life since childhood. She has experience working with a variety of mediums, from paints to fabric dyes, to color pencils and more. Painting has always been her place of peace, creativity, and renewal, leading her to pursue earning the distinction of Master Decorative Artist (MDA), which she earned in 2017.
Lita has been an active member of the Society of Decorative Painters (Crescent City Art Association) since 1981, where she is the current President. She is also a member of the West Bank Art Guild, where she earned the Artist of the Year Award (2013) and the Mildred Lewis Award (2017). She presided as the WBAG President from 2016-2019. She has been involved in numerous community-centric commissions and charitable endeavors, namely a streetcar installation for the YLC “A Streetcar Named Inspire” campaign and a Bead Dog for the SPCA’s fundraiser.
Lita has spent decades teaching, traveling, and sharing her love of art with students and fellow artists throughout the Greater New Orleans area and beyond. She believes art is a teachable skill and considers herself a lifelong student, always eager to learn, share, and encourage others. What brings her the most joy is the camaraderie among artists and seeing the happiness and confidence that painting brings to her students.
